How to Search Civil Dockets
Whitfield Magistrate offers a free portal for its civil matters. Search by party, associated party, or case number. Live civil divisions there include CC civil claims, CD civil dispossessory, CG civil garnishment, and FC foreclosure. IM interrogatories, AV abandoned vehicle, and AM abandoned mobile home complete the list. Superior civil files go through the Clerk of Superior Court instead. Georgia E-Access points Whitfield Superior users to PeachCourt, an account-based provider. Probate keeps separate current and historic search routes.
Before searching, collect the exact party name, the court, and the case number if you have it. A Magistrate civil number may follow MGCCYYYY######. Pick the division filter that matches the case. Do not guess from the type of dispute.
- Identify the court from the notice, filing, or case prefix.
- For Magistrate, select CIVIL and the known division, then search by party or number.
- For Superior, use the clerk and the Georgia E-Access or PeachCourt route.
- Open the case and read header, party, proceeding, and close fields separately.
- Ask the correct clerk for a certified judgment or document that the index does not show.
Whitfield Civil Docket Clerk Lines
For Superior civil questions, call 706-275-7480. That division covers general civil, domestic relations, equity, title to land, divorce, adoption, habeas and mandamus matters, plus allowed lower-court appeals. The clerk's office sits at 205 N Selvidge Street in Dalton. Magistrate Court is in Suite E and answers at 706-278-5052. Probate Court is in Suite G at 706-275-7400. The official Whitfield Clerk page lays out the local Superior clerk structure and its service routes.

That Superior office cannot hand over a Magistrate or Probate docket it does not keep. Call the court that holds the record first, and you avoid an incomplete search plus a transfer.
What a Civil Docket Shows
A sanitized Whitfield Magistrate sample shows the layout of the local overview. The case header stands apart. Parties, associated parties, offenses, and proceedings sit in their own tabs. The offenses tab stays in the system layout even for civil matters. That tab alone does not change the case type.
| Case header | Case number, active status, judge, filing date and time, close date, and remarks. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Party name, party code, active field, garnishee, first order, and other system fields. |
| Associated parties | Associated-party name and code, linked party, and active status. |
| Proceedings | Code, description, filing date, party, comments, and View control. |
| Result | A judgment, dismissal, order, or close entry must be read from the actual docket text. |
The View control can trigger a sign-in prompt. A visible event row is not a public document image. Balance fields in search results never replace a judgment, payment ledger, or certified statement.
Whitfield MGCC Civil Number Structure
A Magistrate case number here begins with MG, then a division code, then a year and sequence. The sanitized example MGCC2026278027 uses CC for civil claims. It exists only to explain format. No party, address, caption, or outcome from a private matter appears.
MG: Magistrate system prefix.
CC: Civil-claims division in the live menu.
Year and sequence: Filing-year and court sequence elements used to distinguish the case.
Other live divisions carry their own two-letter codes. CD means civil dispossessory, CG civil garnishment, and FC foreclosure. A code names a division, not a decision. If a notice shows a different prefix, confirm the court before searching.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
Civil dockets in Whitfield County split by jurisdiction. The amount and subject of a claim matter. They decide both the court and the search channel. Superior Court takes broad general-jurisdiction matters. Magistrate Court handles civil claims up to $15,000 plus its named case divisions. Probate keeps estate and guardianship records outside the general civil systems.
- Superior general civil, domestic, equity, land-title, divorce, adoption, and allowed appeals.
- Magistrate civil claims, dispossessory, garnishment, foreclosure, interrogatories, and abandoned-property matters.
- Probate estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, and related civil files.
- Municipal ordinance and local code matters kept through each city's own channel.
- Juvenile child-protection and CHINS matters, where confidentiality can sharply limit public access.
Probate online records, the Magistrate index, and Superior PeachCourt results are not interchangeable. Each answers to a different custodian of the record.
Whitfield Civil E-Filing Costs Differ
Filing and searching are two different tasks. Whitfield Magistrate civil e-filing runs through the county's Tyler or eMagistrate system. Its published FAQ lists a $15 non-refundable convenience fee per filing. Sample costs show a one-defendant civil claim at $97. A one-defendant dispossessory runs $72. Garnishment costs $97, abandoned vehicle $10, and writ of possession $25. Confirm current totals before filing. The Georgia E-File Court Records chart marks PeachCourt as mandatory for Whitfield Superior Court.

That chart names a filing provider. It does not promise free public access to every Whitfield County civil docket document.
| Channel | Purpose | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| eMagistrate | Magistrate civil filing | Convenience fee is separate and non-refundable. |
| PeachCourt | Superior filing and account access | No complete current public document fee was verified. |
| Public index | Find a case and event history | An index is not a certified copy. |
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A proceeding code and description can mark an event. It may be a motion, hearing, or trial block. The filing date shows when the entry reached the record. That date may not match the hearing date itself. A continuance or reset moves a setting without deciding the merits. A scheduling order can control later deadlines. A short portal row may show only part of the sequence. Confirm any setting with the court that owns the docket.
Superior calendar labels may include civil jury, motions, uncontested, domestic, and pretrial blocks. Those are calendar categories, not case outcomes. Check the newest entry plus the actual notice or order. The broader Whitfield County court calendar explains how local setting fields fit together.
Whitfield Probate Civil Records Stay Separate
Probate civil records cover estates, wills, guardianships, and conservatorships. The county page says public civil Probate records are available online. It also lists a $10 estate-record search and $1 per page for miscellaneous copies. Read "free online" as view or search access. It is not a free paper or certified copy. The Whitfield Probate estates page describes this separate record area.

Probate civil records live in two separate products. Georgia Probate Records covers the newer filings. FileHold holds the older ones. Neither one stands in for the Whitfield Superior or Magistrate civil docket. Call Probate to learn which product fits your year and copy type.
Whitfield Civil Docket Access Channels
Whitfield County gives you a few ways to reach a civil docket. Magistrate cases run through the online Magistrate search. Superior Court civil filings sit behind PeachCourt, which works through a Whitfield account. Probate matters use the Probate online tools or its archive products. A portal may leave your question unanswered. Then pick up the phone or go to the counter that holds the record. The Superior civil line is 706-275-7480. Magistrate is 706-278-5052, and Probate is 706-275-7400.
Prefer mail or fax? Write the court's name, the case number, the exact record you want, and the date range. The county's general request form lists P.O. Box 248, Dalton, GA 30722, phone 706-275-7507, and fax 706-275-7540. Ask the clerk first whether that general form governs. The court may instead follow its own procedure. One limit matters here: Georgia agencies need not build a new report from data they already hold.
Whitfield also appears on the GSCCCA list for eCertification. The covered record types are child support, civil, criminal, and real estate. That certification matters when an official copy is required. Check availability for your specific case and document before relying on it.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Georgia's public-access rules stop short of full disclosure. A Whitfield County civil docket can list a case number or an event. Yet it may still hold back a protected identifier page, a sealed document, a juvenile matter, or family-violence information. Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 allows those limits once the required process and finding are complete. Rule 21.6 covers protected identifiers in particular. Lower courts follow different statutes and procedures, so ask their clerks directly.
Key rules:
O.C.G.A. ยงยง 50-18-70 to 50-18-76 provide Georgia's open-records framework, including timing, fees, and exemptions.
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 covers public access and limits for Superior Court records.
A missing case calls for a method. Save the exact portal message along with the filters you used. Recheck the spelling, date, division, and status. Then work through the likely culprits. These include the wrong court, a restricted file, a sealed part, or a login boundary. Where the law allows, request a public index or a redacted portion of the file. A clerk can walk you through access procedure, though a clerk cannot give legal advice.
